A NEW EDUCATIONAL GARDEN FOR THE NURSERY SCHOOL AT CASA COCCAPANI

Tuesday 22 June saw the inauguration of the new educational garden at the “Casa Coccapani” nursery school. Redesigned through a project promoted by the Iris Ceramica Group Foundation, in cooperation with the Municipality of Fiorano Modenese, the handing-over ceremony was attended by: the Mayor Francesco Tosi; councillors Luca Busani and Carlo Santini; Stefano Luconi, representing the Iris Ceramica Group Foundation; the school coordinator Barbara Messori; the Fiorano parish priest Don Antonio Lumare; director of the Coccapani Foundation (the body managing the facility, which also includes a rest home) Alessandro Reginato.

The project was the winner of the 2020 edition of Next Landmark 2020. The international contest for architects and designers launched by Floornature and promoted by the Iris Ceramica Group Foundation invited all the participants to transform the outdoor area of the nursery into an “educational garden”, without  disrupting the existing layout and keeping the trees. The winner of the 2020 edition was Bruna Sigillo, whose design idea tackled the challenge of preserving the special features of the existing environment in a complete and balanced manner, with a series of delicate interventions, while taking the opportunity to create a new identity for the Coccapani nursery garden.

After the official handing-over ceremony, the children put on a lovely theatre performance and received diplomas for the end of the school year. They were all very happy to have a brand-new garden to play in. The project also aimed to offer an open space to the young members of the Coccapani community, their teachers, school staff and families, for writing their own stories and growing together.
