Renewable Energy

Renewable Energy
Since 1971, the idea of Economy equals ecology has always been a concept defended at all costs by the founder Romano Minozzi. Renewable energy would have grown to become an essential part in environmental projects towards sustainability. Iris Ceramica Group’s production plants have implemented solutions for energy saving, minimum environmental impact, best practices in air emission and water pollution. For example, in the Porcelaingres plant in Vetschau, a 2.4 MWp photovoltaic plant is active, one of the largest renewable energy plants in Germany. An indoor area of 50,000 square meters with a photovoltaic power plant installed on its roof, in order to keep monitored and restrict CO2 emissions by more than 2,000 tons per year, equal to the annual CO2 emission of about 900 cars.

ROAD TO ZERO VOC PROJECT
In 2019, the Group implemented a pioneering project at the production site in Castellarano, significantly reducing its VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions into the air following major investments in R&D. This “regenerative thermal oxidizer” specifically processes the kiln outlet fumes at temperatures around 900°c, ensuring ultra-high efficiency in terms of reducing the volatile organic molecules still present in the fumes, and the related odours, to zero. Today, the VOC and odorous compound emission values are way below the limit set by the relevant Italian legislation.
