IRIS CERAMICA GROUP AT DUBAI DESIGN WEEK FOR THE FINAL PHASE IN THE “LOCAL CULTURES IN GLOBAL SETTINGS” CONTEST

From 7 through 12 November, Iris Ceramica Group will be at Dubai Design Week for the final phase of the “Local Cultures in Global Settings” project, in which the winner will be presented in a playful interactive installation entitled “BIG CHALLENGE”.

“BIG CHALLENGE” is a giant ping-pong table where multiple players can play at the same time, getting visitors involved in exciting games and tournaments. The ceramic slab made using Iris Ceramica Group materials and customised with innovative Design Your Slabs technology will showcase “DRIFT”, the geometric design by Niko Kapa which won the “Local Cultures in Global Settings” contest. The design masterfully expresses the concept behind the international contest, celebrating individual cultural identities in a globalised world while drawing inspiration from the style of Burle Marx motifs.

The event will feature an interesting talk with women speakers including Iris Ceramica Group CEO Federica Minozzi, architect Sumaya Dabbagh, founder of Dabbagh Architects, and trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort, addressing the issue of globalisation and its implications for production processes employing natural raw materials and for architectural design. At the same time, students from the world of design will be offered the opportunity to attend a workshop focusing entirely on the phases involved in the creative process.

The final phase in the project, which has been ongoing for almost a year, concretely combines design, identity, creativity, research and technological solutions, opening up to multicultural dialogue in a valuable and edifying discussion among professionals, students and experts.
