On Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 May, Casermetta S. Salvatore and the medieval walls of Lucca will be the location for World Nordic Walking Day 2019. An opportunity for both enthusiasts and experts alike to celebrate the sport, during which there will be a range of in-depth and outreach activities such as the “Nordic Walking in Cammino” photography exhibition, open to all participating walkers, with various walks to discover the city of Lucca and its medieval walls.

Technical and practical sessions, refresher courses, places for everyone who wants to try out Nordic Walking, aperitifs and live music are just some of the activities organized by INWA and ANWI, sponsored by Iris Ceramica Group with support from, among others, the city of Lucca and Aziende USL Toscana Nord Ovest.

Having previously supported ANWI (Italian Nordic Walking Association official representative for Nordic Walking in Italy and INWA the worldwide governing body) sponsoring scholarships to train and update new instructors in the sport, at the Department of Neuroscience, Biomedicine and Movement, Faculty of Medicine, University of Verona, Iris Ceramica Group is pleased to contribute once again to the dissemination of the discipline and to research into the health benefits derived from muscle activation during Nordic Walking which helps in the management of diabetes and is of benefit to women recovering from breast cancer operations. Scientific evidence demonstrates that Nordic Walking can improve shoulder movement, increase muscle tone, improve cardiopulmonary capacity, reduce fatigue and pain, prevent and control lymphedema, improve emotional health, increase survival rates and reduce mortality.
