IRIS CERAMICA GROUP SUPPORTS ANWI IN TRAINING PROFESSIONAL NORDIC WALKING INSTRUCTORS

Iris Ceramica Group knows the importance of realising that being a world leader today means more than just following the strict rules of the market, it means working for a world (and enterprises) on a more human scale.

This means tenacious, determined cultivation of thoughts and ideas based on important values such as ethics and sensitivity toward nature, in people and things.

In this context, the Iris Ceramica Group has sponsored a number of scholarships in the Department of Neurosciences, Biomedicine and Movement of the Faculty of Medicine at Verona University for an instructor training programme organised by the Italian Nordic Walking Association (ANWI).

ANWI is a member of the International Nordic Walking Federation, a world-wide organisation represented by 22 official national associations promoting the discipline in more than 40 countries, recognised by numerous prestigious international bodies including the International Olympic Committee, the World Health Organisation, the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education and UNESCO.

Nordic Walking is not a very well-known discipline, though it is growing in popularity among people who enjoy physical exercise and the outdoors.

We’d like to share with you some of the most important reasons why I agreed to support the training of these specialists.

Numerous studies have found that Nordic Walking practiced by women who have undergone operations for breast cancer reduces functional limitation of the arms and shoulders and decreases lymphedema following surgery.

All the women who participated in Nordic Walking programmes improved, perceiving a decrease in painful symptoms on the shoulder and limitations on their everyday lives. The ROM (range of movement) of the shoulder improved significantly within 10 weeks of training, and patients appreciated the physical, psychological and social benefits of the practice. And this is not all: with the increase in pathologies that prevent so many people from having healthy cardio activity today, and therefore the need to get moving, walking has become indispensable not only for adults, but for young people too. Nordic Walking is something anybody can do. The Nordic Walking trainers who participated in the programme with our support can plan these people’s training programmes so that they can get their exercise by simply walking, under environmental conditions appropriate to their physical condition, but with the goal of progressive physical and psychological improvement: something very important in our lives today and not to be taken for granted.

On Saturday, February 2 Anwi’s national council met in the Iris Ceramica Group’s museum to thank us for our support and present us with a report on the results achieved thanks to our sponsorship.

We are very happy to learn that 11 new instructors specialising in oncological and metabolic pathologies successfully completed the training programme, and that the training units which had particularly attracted the attention of our CEO, Federica Minozzi, leading her to support Anwi in this project, have been particularly popular.
